Why Would Any “real” Atheist Answer Questions on Religion and Spirituality?

Question by ROBERTA: Why would any “Real” Atheist answer questions on Religion and Spirituality?
Why would their opinion or response have any validity in such a forum as R&S?

This does not apply to questions about. “How does it feel to be an Atheist?” or “Do Atheists really not eat pizza.” But why would atheists even be looking deliberately to answer those type of silly questions?

Because it’s fun.
BTW- you put “real” in quotation marks…. so is this a question for real athiests as opposed to fake ones?

Answer by Despised Icon
Because many of us were forced to believe this crap as kids. And seriously, what kind of answers would you get without us atheists? “Praise Jesus and everything will be better!” I mean what kind of answer is that?

Answer by Tasha
I’d answer your question, but you wouldn’t think my answer was ‘valid’, apparently.

Why not?

We’re here to spead rationality.
Our answers don’t have any validity for the irrational minded.

Probably the same reason why non-cats post so often in the cats section.

Non-cats, specifically humans, are often able to speak more intelligently about the subject than cats could.

I mean, look at your question, you don’t even know not to capitalize the word ‘atheist.’

What makes you think this “question” carries any validity in any forum on the planet?

For the lulz.

you mean, we are not real atheist?

Many atheists used to be very devout.
I wished someone had pointed the way out to me sooner.
I wouldn’t haven’t wasted much time and effort,
believing absurdities like Creation and Heaven.

And it is fun on the other questions.

Answer by Shadow
Some people actually do show geniuine interest in what we think and asks us serious questions.

Atheism wouldn’t be there without theism, so in fact we should have a voice here too, even though it is to oppose religion, you can’t say it has nothing to do with it.

I don’t think that my opinion has much validity often. But when I ask a question myself I’m most of the time interested in other people their views on things, although that doesn’t apply to most people asking questions in R&S as they only look for conformation of what they think.
We atheists have a view that some might’ve never considered and could be found useful. Most of the times people don’t value them, but on the few occassions your opinion is of value to them you actually help people, and that’s what it’s about.

Pizza questions and stuff are annoying, but it’s good point farming.

A real atheist? How about instead of using the word “real” try” strong.

I’m on here to educate people and I find made up religions very captivating to why so many believe in it. Just one big delusion.

Because some one has to inject a level of intelligence here and it surly won’t come from fundies.

For one thing, I discovered long ago that I know way more about the Bible, church history and several other topics than the teenage fundamentalists here.

Why would being an atheist mean that you know absolutely nothing about religion? In my experience, atheists and agnostics know quite a bit more than believers because they’ve actually studied religion in more depth.

For da lulz.

Answer by tehabwa
??? Yes, many of us do. Why wouldn’t we? People on R&S pose questions to us all the time. And in my experience, most believers who answer tell ugly LIES about us (despite what they say their imaginary Sky Bully thinks of lying).

Why wouldn’t our opinions or answer have any validity? What SANE people do is evaluate the worth of answers based on how well-reasoned and well-expressed they are, not on who wrote them.

All questions on YA appear on the Home page; and on the page for the major category (in this case, Society & Culture), as well as on the more specific topic page.

Apparently they are here to spread their unbelief to others. Possibly the old adage applies here: “Misery loves company” and they want to take as many with them to eternal punishment as possible. Maybe a life without God is so boring they do it to make theirs less boring. But think about how satan will torment and laugh at those in hell why would his children [followers] not have his traits, also. At the very least they will have a lot to answer to God for all those they misled by their irreverence and unbelief spread to vulnerable innocents. Like Jesus said the one who causes a little child to be offended [cause to sin] would be better that a mill stone were hanged around his neck and he be drowned in the depths of the sea.
