This is the window at the end of a secured ward at Weston State Hospital in Weston, WV. The main building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1990. The hospital closed in 1994.
It wasn’t difficult to see that the staff of the hospital had done their best to make these old buildings into colorful, cheery places. Many of the patient rooms had been painted bright pastel yellows, greens and blues. In the common rooms and in the hallways some windows had colorful plaid curtains and at least one had a window box with plastic flowers and greens. Many of the common walls, both brick and plaster, had brightly painted stenciled patterns of flowers and birds.
This was built from 9 exposures, -4 to +4, and processed in Photomatix. Post processing in Photoshop with Topaz, Nik and On-One products.
