In Cooking, What Should a “rose-window” Decoration Look Like?

Question by Emily: In cooking, what should a “rose-window” decoration look like?
I have a French recipe for canapes, which says to make a rose-window (“une rosace” in French) with butter, using a pastry bag. Should it look at all ornate, or just simple, like a one-dimensional ferris wheel?
Okay, but as I mentioned this recipe is for canapes, which are little rounds of bread topped with something. So, I don’t think you’d use caramel for that!

a rose window- is made using different coloured caramels to make a stained-glass window appearance. I think you were on the right track with the ferris wheel interpretation! Some websites have stained-glass cookies as christmas ornaments, maybe seek out a recipe like that to assist you.
